Ready or not— winter is here! While participating in all holiday-related activities, dealing with laundry might not be at the top of your to-do list. However, you should make sure you are making your laundry needs a priority! Brought to you by the cleaning professionals at SoapBox Laundry, check out our advice on how to approach cleaning your winter clothing this season.
Snuggly Sweaters & Pants
A great thing about the wintertime is we aren’t producing as much sweat, keeping our clothing cleaner for longer. To have your sweaters and winter pants appear freshly laundered, toss them in the dryer with a few drying sheets for 5-10 minutes— it’s really that easy! Some sweaters, especially wool ones, do require dry cleaning if you are planning on throwing them in the washing machine. Bring them down to our laundry pros who are experienced in performing dry cleaning services with quality and care.
Homey Hats & Scarves
These winter accessories that give us an extra layer of warmth deserve a good washing at least once a month. For the hats and scarves that are either knitted or cashmere, it’s recommended to go the hand washing route. Fill up a bucket of cold water, adding a tad of soap to the mixture. Gently rub the sudsy water into your soaking fabric, emptying the bucket and filling it back again until all soapsuds are gone.
For other fabrics, launder in the wash in a sealed, mesh laundry bag to prevent the fabric being pulled at or manipulated. Our self-serve laundry machines are up and running 24/7 at SoapBox Laundry, so come on by where our employees are ready to help you out!
Wonderful Winter Coats
You only need to wash your winter coat a select few times during the year. It’s not as critical, as our winter coats serve as the warm cocoon over all our other layers of clothing. If it’s beginning to look winter-worn, create a bath of cold water and a dollop of detergent, pre soaking for half and hour. Machine wash in cold water on gentle, using preferably natural laundry detergent that will keep your coat well protected during the process. Tumble dry on low to wrap up the job.
